How This Is Calculated
The whole model is six lines of arithmetic, printed in full so you can check it on paper. There is no weighting and no adjustment we have not written down.
Commission Each Month
Average order or cover value, multiplied by how many you take a month, multiplied by the commission rate divided by 100.
Per-Order Fees Each Month
Any flat fee per order or cover, multiplied by how many you take a month.
Total Each Month
Commission each month plus per-order fees each month.
Total Over A Year
Total each month, multiplied by twelve.
Cost Per Order Or Cover
Total each month, divided by how many orders or covers you take a month.
The Flat Fee Comparison
The flat monthly fee you typed, multiplied by twelve, and the difference between that and your total over a year.
Nothing is added to your figures and nothing is taken off them. All amounts are in pounds sterling and are exactly what you typed, multiplied out.
What These Numbers Actually Mean
The yearly figure is what the percentage and the per-booking fees add up to over twelve months at the volume you entered. Seeing it as one yearly number is the whole point of the exercise - a rate that reads as small per order can look very different once it is annualised.
The flat-fee comparison is a cost comparison only. It does not say that one thing replaces the other, because that depends entirely on whether the cheaper option does the job you need doing. Compare like for like before you draw a conclusion.
What This Tool Does Not Do
- It assumes every month is the same. Real trade is seasonal, so take an average month or run it twice, once for a busy month and once for a quiet one.
- It uses only the figures you type. It does not know about card processing charges, refunds, cancellations, no-shows, discounts or anything else on your statement.
- It counts cost, not value. A channel that charges commission may still be bringing you customers you would not otherwise have had, and that is a judgement only you can make.
- It is an estimate rather than a quotation, and it is not advice. Check the result against your own statements before you act on it.
This calculator is made by Linko Vectis, a UK-based technology company in Chesterfield. Our software is built and managed in house on Google Cloud, alongside bespoke websites and apps. How The Calculator Works
What Is A Per Cover Fee
A per cover fee is a flat amount charged for each cover - each seated diner - that a booking channel sends you, on top of any percentage commission. In this calculator it goes in the fee-per-order-or-cover box, and it is multiplied by your monthly covers and then by twelve. A fee that reads as small per cover can add up quickly at volume, which is why the tool shows it as a yearly figure.
What Does Commission Free Mean
Commission free means the price does not change with your volume: you pay a flat figure - monthly, yearly or nothing at all - and no percentage or per cover fee is taken from the bookings themselves. The flat monthly fee box in the calculator exists for exactly that comparison: type in the flat figure you are weighing up and see it beside what your current rates cost over a year.
Why Are There No Company Names Or Preset Rates In This Calculator
Because published rates change, vary by contract and are often negotiated, so any figure we filled in for you would be out of date or simply wrong for your account. Reading your own rate off your own statement gives you an answer about your business rather than an average of somebody else's.
Is Anything I Type Sent To Linko Vectis
No. The calculator is a small piece of code that runs inside your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to us, nothing is saved on your device, and there is no shareable link that could carry your figures to anyone else. Close the tab and the numbers are gone.
Does A Lower Yearly Cost Mean I Should Switch
Not on its own. The calculator compares cost and nothing else. Before you act on it, check that whatever you are comparing actually does the job you need it to do, and weigh up the bookings a paid channel may be sending you that you would not otherwise get.
